Our second time here (as a pre-theatre dine) and as per the first time the Shalimar did not disappoint. The staff understood our time constraints, were friendly and attentive without rushing us, guiding us through the menu as necessary. My wife chose a vegetable karahi and I the haleem, with basic side orders of rice and roti. Our food was exemplary! The karahi was pretty much the best we've ever had, a great mix of fresh vegetables and the base sauce was perfectly seasoned. My haleem... perfection! A broth of lentils and lamb with, again, perfect seasoning. Such a wonderful tasty dish. Normally a starter but they doubled it into a main meal. Beautiful, and unusual to find on a menu. So although the exterior of the restaurant may not stand out, what you find inside (where it really counts of course!) will.

Excellent, don't miss this superb, authentic Punjabi food. Friendly and attentive staff and there was a great atmosphere. Started well with draft Cobra and Peacock cider. I asked if there was a chief's speciality and the friendly and informative owner Jamil directed me to the katwa, made with shin of beef. It was brilliant, with well balanced spices, reasonable heat and the meat was so tender (no gristle or fat). It came in a light and tasty broth and was finished with fresh coriander. I had a plain naan with it and i was stuffed. The dish stayed really hot to the last mouthful. The beef shin Jamil uses is UTM - under twenty months. My wife had lamb patha and so that wasn't too hot Jamil brought some sauce out for her to taste. A nice caring touch and from the way he treats his staff and customers it is clear that food is his passion. This dish too, was awesome. The peshwari naan she had was the best ever, tastefully laced with garlic, almonds and honey - mmmh. Liked the coffee afterwards too, all this for about 53 quid. Would we come here again, you bet we will, what a find.

This restaurant gets very busy, I would advise booking to get in at weekends. The food was good, spicy hot, but possibly missing a bit a depth of flavour. The staff were friendly but as it was very busy it was quite loud in the restaurant.

This was our second visit to this restaurant. The Cobra was great, and the pinot grigio was good, too. We both had king prawn puri, and that was THE BEST puri bread we've ever had. Very light, and not at all "doughy". Both curries were superb, if a touch oily, and done to the strength we asked for. Naan and rice were also good. Very attentive service, and price was good, even better when the 2 for 1 Tastecard offer on starter and mains was used. On our next visit to Harrogate, we'll definitely be returning here.

My husband and I had the most amazing experience here on Saturday. The prawns were absolutely huge and the food was so delicious. We went crazy and the bill was so reasonable we couldn’t believe it. Absolutely the best food, service and value for money.
